When I connected my Android phone to the PC to transfer some contents from the memory card, I was in for a surprise. The internal memory card was littered with Shortcuts and the external memory card showed nothing. All of the images, songs and other stuff had mysteriously disappeared. I have seen this behavior before, this is the work of the Shortcut Virus.
The Sortcut virus is not a powerful virus and does not create much complications, but it is irritating, your drive gets littered with shortcuts, some files may be hidden, clicking on each
folder opens it in a new window. Most of the paid antivirus remove this virus but for those who don’t have an Antivirus, I have put together a serious of steps that will aide you in removing this virus.
Step 1 : Navigate to your drive from the command prompt. For example, if the memory card of your mobile device is on drive E, use this command to navigate to that drive
C:\> E:
Step 2: Now that you are in the drive that you require, run the following command.
E:\> attrib -h -r -s /s /d e:\*.*
Now check the contents on your drive. The Shortcut virus would have been completely removed and all your files would be back to its original state.
